ULTRAMEL SCONES by Zizi’s cake delights

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
If using dried fruit, add it to the flour mixture and toss to coat.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the Ultramel (or milk/cream/buttermilk) and egg until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it holds together.
Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. Use a sharp knife or biscuit cutter to cut the dough into wedges or rounds.
Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.
Remove the scones from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
Serve the Ultramel Scones warm with butter, jam, clotted cream, or your favorite toppings.
